florescent light Occams Razor
(formally known as Ocklam's Razor)

law of economy/
law of parsimony

the simplest of two or more competing theories is preferable and that an explanation for unknown phenomena should first be attempted in terms of what is already known.

to quote Isaac Newton: "We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances."

The explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is most likely to be correct.

The Truth Ahhh... Isaac Newton, without him we would not have science as it is today.

I agree with you! However it seems that we differ on what we view as being simple.

If two arguments rage for decades without anyone being able to proove the other one wrong, the simplest explaination would be that they are both correct.
