dr_seuss
professor uno When trying to quit smoking in his 50s, he carried a corncob pipe empty of tobacco but full of dirt, in which he had planted radish seeds; he would suck on the pipe while riding the bus, stopping every now and then to take out an eyedropper of water and squeeze a few drops into the bowl. To anyone who took the bait and inquired, he would explain that he was "Watering the radishes."

Defenseuss At a local coffeehouse there is a "The_Cat_In_the_Hat" book. It is "based on the movie". It does not rhyme. The parents are sitting on the couch on page (x). The cat doesn't do anything naughty and the children say generic things such as, "I sure do like the_Cat_in_the_Hat, don't you?"

It's horrible. A real disservice to the original. They took the idea and tossed away Seuss' genius like a... like a... like a used banana peel.

While I support the "author's" right to make free use of material, it alarms me that someday kids could know this junky version instead of the scintillating original. Kind of like people who hear "fate knocking on the door" to the tune of G-G-G-Eflat and think of the disco.

Imitation is a high form of flattery, or something...? Ooof.

It's a scandal.
Worse than the pantomime.

The pantomime.

Hooray for Dr. Seuss!
