Things like "lol" (laugh out loud)and "brb" (be right back) I can understand, but when it gets to be 4 or more letters long, I get confused. For example, does anyone know what "rofl" and "roflmao" mean? omg

idk, maybe it's one of those secrets that everyone's in on and you don't know, you're not gellin' like when you laugh, and someone points out that you don't know the joke, just laughing because everyone else is, to not be standing around with an odd fish-like look on your face

Do my head in! I bet half the people that put "lol" aren't really laughing!

Yes, damn (the person who blathed above), and like that guy on that commercial who says "I'm gelling," and then everyone else says "You're not gelling," "You're so not gelling." I prefer the "What the hell is gelling?" approach than to being laughed at for trying to be in on it.

Well Jess, some people do it just to show the person that they thought it was funny, even though they weren't laughing. (I know what you're thinking, but yes, it's possible to think something's funny and not laugh) lol

yep, honesty tends to be the best policy. On the other hand, if you're clueless all the time... everyone just thinks you're an idiot. But at least you know you're an idiot... can't bluff all the time
