mikey ..and the wrath of that angry god was thrice shown unto the world with storms and violent hurricanes. and as the black haired girl sat in the field wishing for the thunder to quell....along came a black bird feathers burnt and crisp.

..this bird rested softly perched upon the shoulder of the girl with black hair...and as she looked into its black eyes of onxy she saw her own reflection. she saw death walking across a field of blood and ashes.

...it was a sign. but 'twas it a good or bad sign. it was forboding. only time would tell......

Aimee ...meanwhile, the young girl sat staring into the bird's eyes, almost unable to break their gaze. Finally in doing so, she looked about the world that had nearly been destroyed, and began to weep. Perhaps this was what the sign spoke of. The death of the corrupt world... 010312

florescent light ...she found herself looking deeper and deeper into the dark velvet bird's beady eyes. Until she discovered herself existing inside of them. Where she discovered a whole 'nother society of.... 010312

But they could speak just as well as humans. The only thing they lacked that humans possessed was free will. The cats had no choice but to do whatever was asked of them, no matter who asked or what was required of them. They were unable to give voices to their thoughts and feelings. Everything about them was controlled by Cat Watchers who, to the young girl, looked strangely similar to the "normal people" she knew.

In the face of all this resignation, there was one cat that was feared by all of the Cat Watchers. Her name was Snowflake. She was the only cat that had free will - so much of it that the Cat Watchers were afraid it might rub off on some of the other cats...

birdmad Meanwhile, from the ruins of Olympus, the ghost of Apollo, pondered the fate he had inflicted on the bird and his descendants in the wake of Coronis' betrayal.
But why,he wondered, why was he the only ghost here in the place where fates had one been theirs to decide?
Why was he the only one lingering in the dust amid the bones of Titans and gods.

The ground seethed, and for a moment, the ghost-god saw not the ruins where he lingered, but a strange world of men and machines interspersed with overlapping vision of a strange world of man-like cats. As if from a distance he envisioned the girl with the raven-black tresses and a descendant of the chaperone bird resting upon her shoulder. He wept spectral tears into the dust....

chiidi ...In her head, the girl heard a voice that seemed to emanate from the bird.

"Come with me," it said silently, speaking into the recesses of her mind, "there is work to be done and little time in which to do it."

...
Aimee ...she followed the voice through many a land, until she reached a small cottage enshrouded in a lush forest. She almost did not see the tiny home as the darkness had begun to fall upon the world. It was here that the voice stopped. In vain she cried out, "What am I to do here?!?" Her desired response never came. Instead a booming voice called out into the night.

"Who goes there?!" She turned to see a very short, very burly silhoutte in the doorway to the cottage. She searched her mind for a response for what seemed like an eternity.
"I am Gywnn. I have travelled far, and seek shelter for the night"
The figure seemed to hesitate, but called out,
"Only for the night."
Once inside, she debated telling her story to the wary man sitting before her, eyeing her every movement, and thought the better of it...
010323
...
Aimee ...the man looked at her a while, still attempting to make up his mind whether she was friend or foe. "Have a seat." She stood looking almost frightened of him.
"Please, have a seat. My dinner is almost done. It isn't much, but I will be happy to share it."
"Thank you." she said meekly as she sat down across from him.
"What brings you into this wood?"
She paused, thinking of her response 'you wouldn't believe me if I told you' but felt she could reveal a bit of what had happened without revealing all.
"I merely went for a walk, and got lost. I expect I should find my way in the daylight."
The man looked skeptically at her.
"Just a walk?"
"Yes."
"I know that's not true. For I knew you before you came here, and I know where you are from" He said in a low and even tone.
Her look of fear overtook her face, and she immediately became defensive.
"How do you know?" she demanded.
He looked deep into her deep blue eyes,
"I heard the voice too"....

birdmad ...meanwhile, in the corner, the enigmatic bird hungrily eyed a large beetle scuttling in just below the door... 010325

pralines&cream The beetle looked up at the bird and said, quite wisely in his grotesque beetle-dom, "There is no spoon. I see dead people, but they don't know they're dead. I've taken my obsession with scary movies ... one step too far."

"WTF?" said the bird.

"I'll eat your liver with fava beans," said the beetle in response, "you can't handle the truth."

"Fuck off," said the bird, "you're too annoying to eat. And he flew away.

"Yo quiero Taco Bell?"

pralines&cream Meanwhile, the black-haired lady explained her sorrow to her host.

"I fell in love with a man, a man whose heart was cold and unyielding, whose words were sharp and bitter to all who approached him. He was frozen inside, and felt no emotion for anyone, that is, until he met me.

We were connected at once, our souls interlocking. We fell in love together, and because my father hated the man, for reasons I know not, I vowed to keep our love a secret."

wicker man (easy, you ignore it and move on and hope the reader keeps the thread)

the bird perched on the unoccupied peg from the coat rack in the corner, alternating its gaze between watching the the beetle and watching the man.

The man noticed the restless, hungry raven on the rack and tore off a piece of bread which he held out.

the bird cocked it's head to one side before hopping off and fluttering over to snatch the morsel from his hand. its appetite whetted by the bread, he swooped over and crunched the shiny beetle in his beak before he could let loose with another torrent of bizarre utterances. at this rate he would be sated for at least another few minutes, after all what other creature could spawn the term "ravenous appetite"
