thanks; my blues days have fallen by the wayside, but i was just listening to those recordings the other day. thinking how i grew cause of them and the people i recorded them with. i am on a more classical path these days. i sat down at the piano yesterday and songs from tchaikovsky's album of the young that i had memorized but not played or been able to remember for a long while poured out. one of them i haven't played in probably a good six months at least. i have also been half seriously kicking the idea of a school audition around again. *shrugs* if you like hip hop and marvel comics: milwaukee 's house of m the alternate reality of.... it is the funniest (in a good way) hip hop record i've heard in awhile

the song 'hang you from the heavens' by the dead weather it is the first mainstream song that has made me make the frank face in a really long time or 'will there be enough water?' by the dead weather. it reminds me of the slide blues song me and anthony wrote in the basement on kansas.

bill evans // "the complete village vanguard recordings, 1961" for my money, possibly the best piano trio jazz ever played or recorded by anyone. even if you're not into jazz as a rule, you might dig it. there isn't a single wasted note, and there's a kind of telepathic musical communication going on here that leaves the studio albums this group recorded (as good as they are) in the dust. scott lafaro, the bassist in the group, died less than two weeks later in a car accident at the age of 25, lending even more poignancy and immediacy to what turned out to be the final music this particular trio made together.

big bonky tones: https://tonebonk.bandcamp.com/album/big-bonky-tones if you ever owned one of muchmusic's "big shiny tunes" cds, this one's for you. toronto record label and collective tone bonk have curated a grab-bag of covers from the first five "big shiny tunes" compilations, as interpreted (and often *reinterpreted*) by a whole slew of artists. the results are weird and wonderful and sometimes kind of revelatory. it's a little like hearing a bunch of songs that are a part of your chemical makeup, but they're on the soundtrack of a dream, and someone else is singing them, and you've never heard them sound quite like this. (i especially like the moody instrumental version of "otherside" by the red hot chili peppers.)

i can't wait to check this out, thanks for the tip! i remember stumbling upon a torrent about a decade ago that had all the big shiny tunes discs on it and i downloaded the fuck out of that; i played the earlier compilations so much growing up.
