A record I have wanted for a long time that was long out of print was reissued recently by a small british company. I ordered my copy at 3 AM last night. Funny how the smallest little things can make your week.

Nothing better than vinyl. It's a little known fact but Sony Music et al did not design CDs with sound quality in mind... their aim was to have a convenient portable media that would fit beethoven's entire fifth symphony on one interrupted consecutive program (i.e. one 'side') and would fit in the dashboard of a car. Some sound is sacrificed over vinyl, especially 180 gram vinyl with a record player with a diamond stylus. Any audiophile will tell you so. Don't get me wrong though, as much as I love my vinyl, I still tend to buy CDs unless it's something that's out of print or whatever. The convenience of the CDs sells me. Can't listen to LPs in the car.

As an afterthought, Sony didn't invent CD's, Philips did, then they sond the rights to Sony because they didn't have the facilities to make them reliable enough or small ehough. i have one of the first CD players Philips made. It's like one of those big top-loading videos, the cd mechanism sits in the top and you push a button and the top comes up and you stick the CD in and press it down.

My table of preference is an old Technics from the mid 70s. It's actually a great piece, not incredibly expensieve, but it hangs well. It's not one of those several-thousand-dollar pieces of equipment, to be sure, but with a good cartrige (I use primarily shure and pickering) it can sound nice. I run it through an old mid-70s Technics receiver. Sounds great.

Yeah, some of those Technics direct drive things were really nice tables. Teh made a really clean sounding receiver as well. I still have a technics amp somewhere from then.

Just got me a Technics SP25. Kick ass deck. I've got a SP10 to compliment it too.
