z it seems like some kind of rounding off is taking place. thoughts? 091124
...
somebody Huh? If anything, it would round off to one, not zero. To what do you refer? 091124
...
z sorry. i was being ironic about the fact that most mathematicians do believe that it is equivalent to one. it seems wrong to me, so i rounded the other way in order to identify why. it clearly does not equal zero, but is it the same as one? 091124
...
somebody Ah, I see now. I kind of agree with you. "Nuance_is_not_precision," eh? 091124
...
z yeah. nuance is not precision. 091124

hsg see, point_nine is repeatedly starting to think so. 091124

Fuzzy Thinker Imagine one (1) apple. Now cut it in half: two half apples, right? Two 0.5 apples. Show someone the resulting pieces and they'll say, "That is half an apple."

Imagine one (1) apple. With the tip of a knife, flick of a tiny little piece of the skin, on millimeter square, so as to reveal a small patch of the white inner fruit. You now have 0.9999 an apple. Show someone this item, and they won't say, "My, that's point nine nine nine ninths of an apple," they'll just call it an apple.

Imagine one (1) apple. Remove one carbon atom from it. Now there is point-nine-repeatingth of an apple. Really, though, it is still one (1) apple.

I would imagine that in the vast majority of situations encountered in anyone's life, it is reasonable to round up to one. Precision_is_not_nuance.

ergo What about the electron that is orbiting one of the apples carbon atoms and happens to be 999,999.999999... miles away from the apple? Does the apple feel less appleish? 091126
...
hsg ha_ha_ha !!! Oh_yeah maybe 1 would be closer. 091126
