She is returning to London for a reunion with her son who has just tracked her down through a private detective. she had believed he was dead for nearly sixty years, having been seperated from him during the siege of Stalingrad. Her son had been imprisoned in a Nazi prison camp where he came under the wing of a Jewish watchmaker who taught him his craft by scratching diagrams into the dirt of the cell they shared. After liberation he moved to America and after various adventures ended up living in London running his own multimillion pound corporation manufacturing heat resistant celing tiles. The old Russian woman is dying of stomach cancer but has just long enough to live to realise the dream she has not dared even to speak of for most of her life, to see her son's face one more time and to know that he is safe. Unfortunately you do not speak any Russian and she speaks no English so you learn none of this story and instead spend the entire flight being mildly irritated by a faint whining noise she makes when she breathes. 020610 ...
