tessellations
unhinged like_a_tree
the warm rain, wind
made the trees drop their leaves faster
the sidewalks were plastered
with wet beautiful blankets
of fall colored leaves
in escher tessellations
we walked a meandering path through the neighborhood
and my eyes kept getting caught in the designs
the rain was gluing to the sidewalk
maple, oak and so many others i couldn't identify
sadly though
there aren't many leaves left close to the sky

and even as we walked back to his apartment
there was some little vehicle
bustling up and down the sidestreets
scooping up the piles of leaves people raked to the street

unhinged my favorite ones
were the ones with several different kinds and colors of leaves
but then again
the sidewalk squares framing the random design
of just a bunch of perfect yellow oak leaves
was equally beautiful
the rain made the leaves look like vinyl
darkened the sidewalk and brightened the leaves
so that the contrast heightened the design
the same with the trees
darkened bark brightened leaves

i have always loved fall the best
and sometimes fall in milwaukee is a crap shoot
but this year i have been stunned by the beauty countless times

unhinged (maybe i've learned to find the beauty in the details, expand my joy whenever i can. it's kinda weird when you realize that there are things about yourself that are different than they used to be) 091101

unhinged (this fall not quite as beautiful as the others. the hot dry summer made for a dull and scorched fall) 141119
