sabbie
and i sat outside
on a cold cold night
and stared at the ice cold stars.
'i wish..'
i said.
'i wish..'
i screwed up my eyes tight as tight
and wished with all my might might might.

when i opened my eyes
there stood on the grass
one of the stars i had wished on.

i was so excited,
transported by his beautiful voice
and his kind words
that i forgot to breathe.

he took my hand
in an effort to show me how sincere he was
and i heard the pain in his eyes
as he told me his sad news.

and it hurt a little,
but then it was unfair of me
to build it up before i'd even known.
however, i bear no gruges.
for who can stand in the way of stars?

the star tilted my face
and kissed my cheekbone
(partly in apology
and partly in concern)
and said
'remember that a journey always has two directions'

and so i build my hope
(only ever so gently)
in case it might happen
when the angels migrate home for autumn.
