dancing is a verb used here as a noun because it is being modified by an adjective. you have raised an interesting question: does a verb modified by and adjective instead of an adverb become a noun? i think the poetic intent here implies that it does, but technically there is no noun used. nice. i like ambiguousness.

was beautiful in passing beyond and destined for explosion (action) in silent strength (condition) the watching was (activity) and lost quickly the winding was followed by waft and drift (activity) and shown to be hollow seen from black (condition) into greyness distant (condition) so light in running and stopped (no nouns) (it is true, however that i am misusing language. it is what poets do)
