Q

I've applied for a grant from the government to genetically engineer a correction into apple trees or cinnamon plants to obtain the desired fruit. No, not the fruit you're thinking of. I mean apple_cinnamons. Doing this research with taxpayer money is called risk-taking for the future rich, a species of corporate welfare. But every taxpayer wants the result, right? Even if they do need to pay for it twice or three times or a hundred times, like some pharmaceuticals. (Now for a little subliminal advertising: gore.) I will be sure you can have an apple_cinnamon when I'm done. I promise not to charge you an arm and a leg for one. Probably just a leg would be enough.

the race for the apple_cinnamon is a matter of national pride, we must develop it before those zany kanadians do.

what about orange_pineapples and strawberry_bananas? surely someone can devote some R & D money to those causes as well, no?

now dont go overboard here, we dont want a bioengineered regrigerator, but a little improvement here and there is ok. the apple_cinnamon is very traditional, not too radical. who would buy an orange_pineapple?

besides, i always figured the liquor industry would be more than willing to underwrite the development of things that might go well with rum. to which i propose, in addition to the strawberry_banana and the orange_pineapple... the kiwi_lime
