agreeing_with_a_question
z at work the other day i posed a question during a group exploration of strategy for an ongoing project. a new team member then said "I agree". i was confused. how can one agree with a question. have we come to accept a question as declarative?

it seemed like the agreement proceeded from an intuitive extrapolation of the underlying thought process which lead to my question. the agreement, then, would depend on this assumed analysis.

has this ever happened to you?

birdmad the accedant was either lazy and not really listening or afraid to address the substance of the question and simply agreed as a dodge. 060823

z an editor friend suggested that it was possible i was being asked to shut up. 060823

emmi apparently i often do this when i'm not really listening to someone but half-assedly pretending to. 060823

neesh z, was your question of the form:

LS Perhaps to a different perspective your question had an implied answer and they mistakenly took the thought train as rethorical even though you did not mean to present it this way. I can say that I've been inthe same situation and what was a complete mystery to me was just another step in the ladder someone else had already climbed. 060824
