Rather, you choose your 51% of the voters and say exactly what they want you to say so they will vote for you. (You do this if you don't have an amazing character. Having an amazing character means you can speak from your heart, and people who don't agree with you will still vote for you, because they just personally like you. Both Jesse Ventura and Paul Wellstone were in this group. Both Obama and Romney are outside of it.) In Massachusetts, the more conservative 51% of the population are still a pretty liberal bunch, and don't mind same sex marriages and universal health care. So Romney, being such a publicly ethic-less person, said "hey I'm for whatever those guys just said." Now, however, he's asking for the vote from the most conservative 51% of America, and America includes Arizona and Alaska and northern Florida, so it's a group with more than a couple of truly vile shitbags.
