let's say you suddenly lost the ability to remember. without memory, who are we? what are we? how can we continue to become? is it worse to have terrible memories or none?

while the advance commentary from the peanut gallery was not unwelcome, i would prefer to field this question myself. on the issue of good or bad, i can't really say, as there are actually times when i wish i was someoine else i think this would require whole new sets of memories though it seems as if a very large portion of who we are as indivduals is based on our memories and on how we react to them I don't know, maybe i read a little too much Philip K. Dick when i was a kid, but i seem to agree with his core idea that memory and identity are inextricably linked look at the news stories and anecdotes relating to genuine amnesia sufferers, they are frequently subject to further emotional trauma by the fact that they have, on their side of things, lost the bond of familiarity with their loved ones. some days i wish i could forget.
