battle_field_flower
girl_jane I’ve heard the sounds of battle
But they were always distant
Always on the other side of the wood

The sounds grew closer
And I grew more frightened
The sounds of men screaming in pain
Of men howling in fear
Men celebrating their victory-mourning their dead

The sounds were followed by the smell
The smell of decaying flesh
Of cooking in the sun
Maggots and worms processing the once breathing bodies

The thoughts of such things were unheard of
Why should a flower like me be concerned?
I have nothing to worry about
The battles are far from me

But they are close enough for me to hear
They’re close enough for me to smell
And I have reason to worry
The battles are almost here

The battles came closer
And I could hear and smell the same things but
Louder and
Stronger

Now I could see the battles
I could see the men
I could see the beads of sweat on their brow
The blood from their bodies
Teeth clenching

And I coulc feel the battles
I could feel the rumble of the cannons
The blood staining my petals
The earth dying below me,
Starving my roots

I felt the feet of thousands of men
Trample my broken, dying body

The happenings of such things were unheard of
Why should a flower like me be involved?
I had nothing to do with the battles
The battles were far from me

But they came close enough for me to see
They were close enough for me to feel
And I have reasons to die
The battles were here

In the third little stanza thing, after the word cooking should be the word 'organs'

I must have missed that while I was typing...guldernit...
