I know it hurts, I know it's easy to think that you should have done something, especially with something like this. The truth, though, is that ultimately we have control over ourselves and noone else. This isn't something people do lightly, and it is always because of something internal to themselves. Something deep inside is hurt or broken, and sometimes it can't be fixed. It's easy to look backwards and say, "If only..." It's harder to look forward and see how to move on as best you can. And it's hardest of all to let go of the guilt, but you have to. The owner shed themselves of it, and I know it is tempting to pick it up and carry it on in their name. I've been there.
