stork daddy
there
is
this
toy
,
where
a
ball
is
housed
in
a
plastic
circle
,
so
that
the
cat
can
hit
it
and
watch
it
roll
around
the
circle
,
but
never
really
get
it
out
of
the
circle
.
i
imagine
a
cat
could
do
that
for
hours
,
always
falling
for
the
quick
flash
of
the
ball
,
never
stopping
when
the
bid
fails
to
do
anything
but
bat
the
ball
in
a
more
dizzying
spin
.
and
yet
i'd
never
mock
a
cat
for
that
.
they
are
blind
perhaps
in
that
they
can't
see
past
that
four
or
five
second
range,
can't
see
past
that
moment
of
instinct
.
but
just
like
they're
blind
in
that
range,
so
too
are
we
often
in
the
range
of
days
or
weeks
or
months
.
we
often
can't
tell
that
our
batting
is
just
as
futile
,
or
that
we're
sending
ourselves
in
circles
.
in
an
hour
spent
in
predatory
blindness
people
have
often
thrown
away
dreams
they
have
spent
years
validating.

i
bought
one
of
those
identical
toys
for
my
cat
.
She
wouldn't
play
with
it
all
.
She
was
smart
enough
to
figure
out
that
if
she
couldn't
get
the
ball
,
it
wasn't
worth
trying
.
