Squalidangel What does eating or not eating meat have to do with world peace?

" Milan Kundera gives us the answer on page 289 of The Unbearable Lightness of Being :

True human goodness, in all its purity and freedom, can come to the fore only when its recipient has no power. Mankind’s true moral test (which lies deeply buried from view) consists of its attitude toward those who are at its mercy: the animals. And in this respect, mankind has suffered a fundamental debacle, a debacle so fundamental that all others stem from it.’"

dosquatch Yeah, yeah, whatever.

Believing this overlooks a simple, fundamental, inescapable fact - we (humans) are animals and are part of the food chain. Eating meat is no more a moral failing in a human than it is in a shark or a lion.

Unless you subscribe to the notion that we are somehow special or elevated to a higher status than the rest of creation, which at minimum is arrogance defined.

In short, meat is tasty. Please stop picketing my cheeseburger.

dosquatch Oh, no problems, that's just a pet peeve of mine. If someone is a vegetarian because of personal choice or health reasons, no sweat. When it gets turned into a religious dogma, it irks me.

Burger on!
