a linguistics teacher once made a very good point to me: the purpose of language is so that we can communicate with each other. having rules of grammar is a useless attempt to stop language from changing. we don't speak in old or middle english anymore... because we moved on. most people avoid using the word "whom" anymore because it's awkward. there is no real reason to keep saying it. so I say, let it go.
