angelita I notice them more and more nowadays.
Maybe you only get them in England - that broken-up, heart-shaped sign on every draincover you can find.
I wonder if whoever designed them was feeling melancholic. Or, perhaps, I just am when I see one.

broken hearts down drains
i was never one
for the warm water
to let the blood flow faster
the warm water
only takes away the pain
the pain of bloodletting
the biggest satisfaction
next to the warm rusty flavor
on my tongue
licking my wounds like a cat
falling asleep
to the steady pulse
of the poisoned blood
seeping out of my wrists

when i washed the hair dye
out of my hair
it looked conspicuously like
blood
swirling down the drain
my excavated skeleton death grin
coming to my lips
that cold and cruel smile
finding it's way more often
to my down-turned mouth
happy only
with my lips
my heart, eyes
black
more of a snarl really
the love monster in me
sick of being caged
like the lion
who paces the length of his bars
restless
and forlorn
