When I'm not substitute teaching, I tutor Geometry at a local high school. The school is mostly girls... women I mean (what is a good word for 16-year-old women?) Some of them are my friends, and enjoy talking with me, and some even flirt with my old self. Today one particularly naughty one was poking me in the ribs. Sometimes I get gazes, a foot tap under the table. I'm not ever going to try anything, but I am afraid of the dangers of treating them like adults. My life in grad school is spent doing homework and working odd jobs. I don't have free time nor money to spend. My normal friendships are withering like parched houseplants.

Yeah, that's how i know it sounds dicey. My whole life has been one chock full of dicey situations... and i was sympathizing with you by referring to that old Police song. ...Dude.

The only thing more annoying than excessive propriety is a complete lack thereof. Or vice versa... I can't remember. As per usual, both extremes are obnoxious. Let's talk about it.
