First off, Simba's mom is in the story. Both of Mulan's, Aurora's and Nemo's parents are present in their stories. Toy Story is not about the parents, or even the kid, it's about the toys, so the lack of the dad as a speaking role seems moot to me, but he was present in flashbacks, etc. I am glad that not every Disney story has a typical, happy nuclear family. First, what kind of stories would those even be and second, at least they're not reinforcing the idea that my daughter is "different" because her dad doesn't live with her. I think that most of their stories are about adversity and lacking a parent is a typical type of adversity in today's age especially. I hope my daughter's fairy tale wishes all come true, even though her dad is a non-existent jerk. That being said, "Disney" is a business, like any other business. And I begrudgingly just threw down $2000 to take my daughter to Disneyworld, not because I look to Disney for family values, but because it will make my daughter the happiest I've ever seen her to have that experience.
