sneaking off to the store with my older brother and sister and chickening out halfway there, letting them go on ahead up the road without me, crying walking back home, deciding to investigate on the way an old schoolbus, like the one my family had had, parked along the side of the road, looking inside, finding some older kids doing something taking off from the scene, crossing the road, a kid on a bike, talking to him asking me if i was new, him talking about glue getting in trouble for sneaking off to the store, even though i didn't get to the store getting in trouble for talking to a stranger, me arguing that he was another kid just a bit older

my older brother and sister telling me they were robots, me believing them and getting scared and hiding in the backyard tree finding caterpillars on the leaves in the tree, collecting them all in my skirt putting them in one of the drawers of the dresser the kittens were in and closing the drawer tight waiting, hoping for them to turn to butterflies finding them all dead and stinky a few days later, some had escaped out the drawer and died on the floor, dehydrated cleaning out the drawer, the paper lining stained with their deaths thinking about what i'd done, feeling terribly guilty playing with the kittens
