this benevolent creature, green and smiling, belongs to you, and brings with it some strange fear that your whole life is held in those unblinking eyes, that papillose skin, and when that tongue touches your arm i feel the sting that doesn't reach you, the lash of some small whip that moonlights as a live wire, its current unbound by silicone or tinned copper, spitting up its loving sparks to better burn itself into your mind and mine.

she stopped paying the man to spray poison around the house. this summer she has seen more lizards. they have food again. they are skittish shy brown desert lizards. but they keep the perimeter bug free, free of charge.
