"A ruminant forest mammal (Okapia johnstoni) of the Congo River basin in Africa, related to the giraffe but smaller and having a short neck, reddish-brown body, creamy white cheeks, and whitish stripes and bands on the legs." looks kinda like a zebra ...

Wow, how odd haveing never previously known about okapi I just read about them two days back and then wham-ola! here it is on blather! Nifty! -- "The Okapi inhabits a remote part of the equatorial rain forest in Africa. Shy and well camouflaged under trees by fur markings, this 500-pound animal was able to remain undetected for centuries. For years pygmies told about a mysterious animal that lived deep in the rainforest. They described it as haveing the back of a zebra, the body of a horse and the neck of a giraffe. Zoologist were skeptical of these reports. Around 1900, this "improbable" animal was discovered." - RARE and UNUSUAL ANIMALS/ Nina Leen copyright 1981

Okapis are unusual in their ability to sleep for only 5 minutes in a 24 hour period and remain at peak alertness.
