daffodils
kerry audrey gave them to me as a very belated birthday this morning in a bag when i was standing by the piano.

also in the bag:

13 sticks of marshmellow-scented incense

a little clay incense stand with a star in it

a little mini juicebox of Soy Dream soymilk

a mini box of milkduds

a bag of crushed peppermint leaves

a box filled with lavendar

a wine cork

a very pretty and simple homemade card that says:
"felicem tibi natalem diem! Dearest kiwi, happy happy birthday! wow, you're so grown up now... (tears)... and so mature too... hehe, happy 16th! can't wait till we get to drive whenever and wherever we want. we'll have to drag race sometime. love, audrey"

walking with james after school i held the daffodils in my hand and after everybody started grinning and smiling cutely at us i realized they probably thought the flowers were from him. but thats ok.

Q Daffodils

by William Wordsworth

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and
hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay;
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee;
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

unhinged are you guys serious? you have daffodils already?

i'm lucky to see any flowers by april around here. *sigh* i haven't been doing my winter flower therapy either.

last week my favorite grocery store to buy flowers had some cut stems of orchid (the typical purple and white variety) and a still closed bird of paradise and i almost did it. i almost bought myself some tropical flowers to dispel the gloom. my big vase stuffed with tulips and daffodils also sounds delightful.

this is the last spring that all the beautiful bulbs will bloom. they have already listed the house, open house this sunday. i hope whoever buys it lets the tulips and daffodils stay. her photos of them have been brightening my kitchen through two winters now. i will miss that house. especially in the spring and summer with my mother's particular knack for picking and planting just the right flowers.

epitome of incomprehensibility I like that poem, even if the last two lines sound a little silly. I had to memorize it for class when I was seventeen, and from time to time I use it as a tiredness test - if I can't remember all of it, I'm probably too tired. (Although there was one time last year I hadn't had proper sleep for four nights, and I tried to nap but instead Nicki Minaj raps repeated themselves in my mind with startling, almost hallucinatory, accuracy.)

Oh yes, and I like daffodils. They remind me of clothes, somehow.
