i know there's the music museum in downtown seattle. it's a crazy building and looks like a guitar when viewed from above. i think it's called the experience music project. i have never actually been there, but i have heard it is cool. there's the epic space needle, also in downtown. i always thought it was cooler to look at than to look out of, but that could be just me. not to mention it is probably one of the biggest known seattle tourist locations. there's the underground seattle tour. i thought that was pretty interesting, however, it does depend a lot on how good of a tour guide you get. the pike street market is pretty exciting if you like fresh fruit and vegetables and flowers and fish and masses of people and musty shops. i think it is fascinating, but it can be overwhelming. i have never been a huge fan of the locks, even though my family seems to think it is an awesome place. basically, (if i am remembering correctly) it is where the sound and the ocean meet and the water level is different in each place so if you are going from high to low you move your boat into the the place and they lock it and fill it up with water, and then unlock the other side and you go on your merry way. it works the opposite for going the other way, obviously. also, they have a place for the fish also to swim from one side to the other and that is pretty interesting if you are in to fish. i think i used to have excitement for the locks but maybe going there almost every year has diminished the excitement. or maybe i have just never really liked boats. i think there is a museum place there too about the locks. onto food. i don't know a lot about cheap, mostly i just eat where my parents take me. my favorite place is Anthony's Homeport, which I am not sure if it is specifically in "Seattle" but we have been there a lot and it is delicious, particularly for seafood and clam chowder. I am not too sure about the cheapness of it though. the zoo is always interesting, but then again i have always had an extreme interest in animals. despite the fact that zoos are always a little depressing to me and i always wonder if animals were superior to humans, would they have zoos for humans? there's the u-district (university district) by university of washington that has some fun shopping stores, however i would suggest going there only during the day. there is probably cheap food around there. i don't know alot about where to see music because my knowlege of seattle is almost entirely connected to time spent there with parents, and they would never think of going somewhere to see music, which is possibly our most major difference. i can't really think of much more.

hm. things to see. the central library is incredible architecturally. it's very.. playful. i enjoyed walking around the warehouse district between the stadiums.. it's very.. industrial. seattle has some great parks. discovery park is enormous, has some great views. i also liked the gasworks, again, for the industrial feel.. eating? i feel like i didn't ever do much of that, being partially broke most of the time i was ever there. thinking. there was a brewery, maybe the elysian brewing company.. i remember eating some things, and liking them. got a discount because a friend's friend was working there. there's more to the cafes than the restaurants, though. i like zeitgeist, but the coffee wasn't as good last summer as i remember from 6 years ago (that long already!). they have cheerwine, which is unusual for the west coast.. general good places to hang out.. broadway avenue, university way near the university.. other things i've forgotten.

thanks guys...i really appreciate the time, effort, and positive giving red vibe. outstanding suggestions... kathy, my 23 year-old daughter bethany, and i are taking the amtrak from pittsburgh. it stops in chicago and then continues on to king's station seattle. we have reservations at ace hotel and the edgewater (remember the famous photo of the beatles fishing out one of the windows?) we are also thrilled about having one night at the cedar creek treehouse.

for local music, pick up a copy of the Stranger and see what they recommend - and go with your gut. it'll be hit or miss at any particular venue.

we were at our favorite cocolate shoppe yesterday in pittsburgh and amy, the cute, little lady owner who travels quite extensively had not been to seattle but her parents had. they all run the shoppe, selling chocolates from all over the world. they told us about the san juan islands...but i also heard about bainbridge. which island do you guys suggest?

i thought both were great, i've never been good at describing.. but bainbridge has fort ward state park (amazing) and deception pass (amazing) and lots of trees and hiking. the san juans have mount constitution (amazing, even though quite touristy) and lots of trees and hiking. either way, you have amazing!

i need to get to seattle...but my business there would be more of a settling of old scores...ancient grudges that predate blather or even my ever having seen the internet...random plodding around looking up old friends revealed something unexpected and unsought...one old enemy has moved there and in doing so, brought another out of the woodwork with him...the horrible things i feel toward them are fetid and moldy like some toxic thing incubating on a rainy forest floor hmmmm, i must get to seattle...yes. i fear i may never truly rest until i've repaid the unkindness
