epitome of incomprehensibility Good thing to take a break with. If you watch it while folding clothes, that's almost athletic. 150424

nr go leafs go!

(it's hard being a leafs fan, but every year we try for a little hope. it's always mixed with lots of prep for disappointment, but at least we're all in it together...)

releaseofwarmth I've never got the impression that blather is a natural place per se to come around and chat sports. but it doesn't necessarily feel unwelcome either. and the place does have a canadian flavor yaknow? and the nhl blathe is just a tad bit too heavy to contribute to. tough act to follow. and apart from one miserable Sharks fan friend I don't have much of anyone to talk to about hockey. but I still did just feel compelled to say concerning current events in the sport, what the fuck.

Stars, what_the_fuck. enough said.

and then there's the sword_of_damocles, the topic looming over the conversation every April. the canadian cup drought. I have always as an american quietly pulled for the canadian franchises in general. this is partly because I'm a former Nucks fan myself. which was only ever the case because of Vancouver's proximity to Seattle. so naturally I jumped ship to the Kraken. Seems as tho I mighta traded down eh? ah well. I've never properly been to Seattle but. they tell me I was born there. but I really don't remember.

I have also never_been_to_spain

but mostly I pull for the canadians to hoist it because they care so much more. and they're nice! come on hockey gods, stop teasing! let em haaaaaaave iiiiiiiiit. they want it sooooo muuuuuuch.

this spring around Canada's luck hasn't been particularly good, although they have had it worse. Habs were gone before the thing started I'm sorry. they're tough but there was just no way. Oilers have to deal with the Knaves the Leafs get the Panthers. very tough assignments. and late in game 7, end of the first round in Winnipeg, the cursed_trophy-winning golden geese can feel it slipping away. If a pin dropped in Canada for most of that 3rd period it would set off car alarms. and then:

Jets, what_the_fuck. the Stars already did that. now you two unreasonably lucky sonsofbitches get to fight. no_seriously_what_the_fuck.

in any case, for someone who only has a cursory rooting interest, this has been crazy. and I sincerely wish my neighbors luck. McDavid needs his name on that cup one day or it'd be a true injustice to the sport. the Jets fans deserve compensation for losing their franchise to now TWO ungrateful american hubs. their fans endured a lot of undeserved years in silence, having either nothing to cheer for or having to suffer through the other canadian underachievers' slight ups and sharp downs. the leafs deserve...to break...the cyc--I'm sorry I can't say that with a straight face. we all know what the Leafs are gonna do.

just. just please promise me. promise me that it'll be anyone but the caps. if the crazy canes can't take care of it, regardless of what happens to Florida, just please please let someone take em out. I hate this script. I need this timeline to change. I do not want to see Ovie get his fairytale ending I really don't. please. someone stop this. and then let the draft be decent.

raze two things:

1. i'd somehow never seen that nhl blathe before. holy_shit. that's a powerful piece of writing. i miss belly_fire. not that i ever really knew her. but i miss her words. i wish she was still around.

2. as someone who launched into quite a few basketball-themed rants (some of which were pretty salty) over on "playoffs", i say bring on the sports. i admittedly haven't followed hockey much over the years, but i always love reading about what people are into and why it grabs them.

releaseofwarmth End of the 2nd round and yes, the Leafs are still the Leafs. Truly the 76ers of the NHL. Every stage is too big for them. So much talent, so many wins, so consistently squandered. The Jets sputtered out. But the Oilers, decades after Gretsky and they're still the most relevant Canadian franchise somehow, are still in it. And so are the Panthers of course. Could we have a cup finals rematch? Or will the Stars continue to align? Or will the Canes upset the apple cart again? Even if they don't, I'm grateful they turned the Caps into twist-offs. At this point most of my rooting interest is gone. I wish best luck to Canada via Edmonton and good luck to these southern-located teams that are, of course, also full of Canadians. May the best team win. 250519

releaseofwarmth Truly the more things change the more they stay the same. It was a cup finals rematch and Florida took it convincingly. Despite the Oilers pushing it to 6, it did not have the look or feel of a competitive series. Better luck next time Canada, I don't understand how the fuck we got here but we're now staring down the barrell of a Panthers dynasty, what a time. 250617
