raze you haven't truly heard the beatles records that came before "the_white_album" until you've heard the original mono mixes. after growing up with that bizarre stereo sound, with all the instruments on one side and all the vocals on the other, hearing the music the way it was intended to be heard is nothing short of a revelation. 160929

raze so, this might have just made me a little misty for about eight different reasons:

ovenbird I’m sure we talked about their music the day we sat, stage left, cross-legged, our knees almost touching, in the dim high school auditorium before drama class. I think I told you about my dad’s record collection. All the sixties and seventies rock I grew up on, my mind mesmerized by the spinning vinyl. I don’t remember a single word you said, only that I was nervous, because I was sure you knew a lot more about music than I did, and I assumed that you, like everyone, wouldn’t find me very interesting at all.

Now I wish I could remember. I wish I could recall every single word that passed between us. Because that was the beginning I never knew would be the start of anything at all. And I want to frame it. I want to keep it. I want to get back inside that moment and see all the promises it held and all the gifts it clutched in its greedy hands, unwilling to yield them to our lonely hearts.
