epitome of incomprehensibility In Oxford, England, it's been so dry that a large meadowside pond, deep enough for a big dog to swim in, has dried up. I saw Tarka paddle in it this June (and get scared away at one point by hissing swans on the left and wading cows on the right). David reassured me that the river was still running, but that's connected to the Thames, so you'd expect it to.

In Arden, Ontario, it's not as bad, but the roadside grass is going grey. Tomatoes, abundant right now in my small backyard garden, are scarce in the vast countryside fields here.

It drizzled briefly yesterday. I was hoping it'd rain overnight.

e_o_i Actually, it was a different pond that had dried up last year. The one the dog swam in was part of the Thames, narrow while passing through Oxford. 230626
