tender_square a stair-step bookcase with a series of descending cubes, in the most incredible copper patina, outside the dumpster of an elementary school. i wanted it even though i have no room for it, even though it would be too big for the car. i tried lifting it; turns out it’s metal. that fucker is heavy. how they got it out of the school is beyond me. 211220

tender_square a wicker bookshelf with a curved top. it was passed out on a neighbor's front lawn. i assume the wicker must have snapped somewhere, but my brain won't let the piece go until i know for sure. 220118

raze a plush recliner. grey streaked with black, pink, and green. a designer's abstract daydream. a brighter, brasher cousin to my memory of a couch that spent most of my childhood parked in the living room of my mother's house. the chair straddled the sidewalk and the shoulder of edinborough street. it was a little dirty. a little faded. a little bit of an eyesore. it was a lot like me. i sat in it just for something to do. a poorly patched crack in the pavement made a misshapen semicircle behind me. my feet fell onto a grid of squares that led nowhere.

i could have sat there all day.

raze the chair and table combo moved to the opposite side of the street. now they're hanging out in a small parking lot. i'd like to know how that internal monologue went.

"i'm not taking these bad boys home with me. but i could really use a rest. i don't want to sit here, though. there's too much shade. what i need is some sunburn in my life. i know! i'll drag them over *here* instead. there. that's better."
