wicker
tender_square big boxes are peddling a bleached version of wicker so fragile it verges on straw. seating designed with rounded edges, a marvel of material for hundreds of dollars a pop (on sale at end of season, it seems). i buy a single chair in a store named for a cartoon animal that's affordable for what i'm looking for: a desire cloaked in sudden need. funny how much he preferred these same structures, bringing the outdoors into his apartment. how he unwove their skeletons as he unraveled. now, a single seat for the front porch; a place to rest my rump so when neighbours walk by they know the bad man is gone, that i am the queen of this castle. the debbie travis box bears the slogan "find your joy." and for fifty dollars, i want to trust that i have. 230912
