DannyH Because you can't reason with it.
It is the sound of cold hard uncompromising truth. the sound of void, of meaninglessness, of the end. The older I get, and the more I write, the more I learn the power of silence in communication but I've got no better at coming to term with the idea of the silence at the end of everything.
The other aspect of my fear of silence is its implication of loneliness. To be able to sit comfortably with a friend and say nothing is often an indication of deep trust but being alone in silence fills me with existential terror.
I often feel like I need the contact of my friends in order to exist, as if I would disappear if there was no-one there to tell me who I am.
