heh "MONTREAL (Reuters) - Happy window cleaners provided a moment of mirth on Tuesday at a Canadian court hearing into whether an alleged Russian spy should be deported.

At the start of proceedings on whether a man who calls himself Paul William Hampel and claims to be Canadian is in fact an elite Russian spy, two cleaners outside the building began noisily scraping and washing the courtroom windows.

Inside the court, where several security officers stood impassively and lawyers huddled over their case documents, Federal Court Justice Pierre Blais struggled to hear testimony over the rattle and bang of the windows.

Barely hiding his exasperation, Blais asked a court clerk to step outside to resolve the issue.

The clerk returned, but the cleaners continued their work in the freezing temperatures and brisk winds, this time singing happily as their tools clattered on the glass.

"It's supposed to last five minutes," the judge told the court, peering over his glasses. "I hope my patience will last that long."

It did. The cleaners moved on, and the courtroom testimony resumed."
