raze abby lives in port dover. she started a newsletter when her dog frankie got hurt and couldn't leave the house for a while. she wanted to let people know why they weren't seeing him around.

frankie got better, but abby kept writing her newsletter. the longer she stuck with it, the more ideas she had. pretty soon she was writing book reviews and interviewing local business owners.

she decided to try and raise money for the port dover food bank.

"i saw people that didn't have enough food," she said. "so i wanted a way to help people that needed food."

last summer she raised more than three thousand dollars.

she's eight years old.

in her eighteenth issue of the abby post (the "birthday edition"), she writes:

"it's hard to tell which birthday to start with. i had four days that we celebrated my birthday.

my friend's party was the first one. it was crazy. i had a lot of fun.

my second one was my birthday birthday. i wasn't feeling too well. i puked five times. i still had fun. it was actually kind of funny. we didn't eat cake. they just put the candle in front of me and i blew it out.

my third birthday we went out to dinner with my mommy's family. for my fourth birthday i hung out with my dad's family.

i feel sixty-six years old. i feel happy."

this little girl is my hero.

raze for this year's summer issue, she interviewed her principal, mr. van laecke:

"it is his fifth year being principal at lakewood. the school gets bigger each year. he was a teacher and a teacher consultant before he was a principal. and before that he was a farmer and grew garlic. he likes going for walks. he has always found people help each other in port dover. he has two children. normally a student does not interview a principal, but i thought it was awesome."

raze from this year's birthday edition:

"i went to an opera. it was called 'the marriage of figaro'. it was made by mozart. i went with ciotka. first we went on the go train. then we walked to our hotel and we had a drink in the hotel lobby. then we went to an italian restaurant. then we went to the opera. we watched it. it was like four hours long. we stayed for the whole thing. the opera was really good but there was a lot of kissing. the music actually was really good. by the way, it was in italian. i knew what they were saying because there were subtitles in english. they were at the top of the stage. then we went back to the hotel and we walked around. it was an old hotel and the queen stayed there. i took pictures and one was of all different crowns. i liked it. we went into the ballroom. it was really cool. it was all very crystally. it was a really good opera to see. i hope to go see one again that is about a fox. it is an opera for kids but the other one was for adults. it was kind of awkward because i was the only kid there. people, it was really long. i loved the opera."

raze from the 2023 summer edition (issue twenty-three):

"the simcoe and district humane society is a place with animals that do not have a home or they are helping animals that were being abused by humans. today me and lucas went there and we gave them donations. we gave them bedding and towels. they are always looking for donations of different kinds.

if you can help just a little bit it would be great, because animals need as much care as humans.

in the picture is frankie, who came from another shelter. he was also helped by people, but before that people abused him and that is why he is still afraid sometimes, because he worries people will hurt him. but he is almost all better with being afraid, because we love him now."
