The sky grows bigger every day And the other week I hopped on a train Cutting through state lines To come to you as the crow flies And out there in there offing everything was melon and orange Did you know, my sweet That I once took the liberty of watching you in your sleep? I rolled over and over Trying to touch your knees underneath the sheets I just want you to know that every pool of water reminds me of you Is that all right? I hope you think it's cool 'Cause sometimes a train can't go as fast as I want it to Everything seemed a little easier when we weren't one hundred miles apart The person across from me sitting in her train seat, reminded me of you And I looked out past her cheeks through the glass-light conduit But the sun had sunk already Disappeared into New Jersey Oh, why don't they have phones on these things?

There's just something to the sound of a train. You know, off in the distance somewhere? No too far but hazy enough to evoke the romanticism from another time. It's very comforting and whimsical. It's easy to hear the train horn and find myself staring into the sky and thinking that I've transported myself far away. Maybe off in a prairie somewhere, with mountains off in the distance. Where the sky is clear and everything seems empty. Empty except for that sound of a train. The only thing connecting you to civilization. Strange how that sound can connect me thru worlds. It's so soothing.

the under ground kind. a brake got stuck on one of the cars while in the tunnel. the driver said over the speakers "if we move we'll catch on fire, so we're not moving." the power went out. a lady from new york fanned herself nervously "does this happen often?" everyone chime in "nope" "never to me" no one else seemed concerned. we began moving again and two guys turned on a boom box and danced, fluidly like break dancing robot monkeys... flips on the cieling bars and one must have been double jointed or a contortionist. everyone loved it. like rainbows after a bothersome storm.

in the dream, my ex and i were trying to board a train together but i couldn't name where the destination was. my analyst thought the detail was curious: "train travel only allows for one direction and no deviation from that path," which is to say, it can be a form of control. i didn't end up boarding, i was caught in the baggage area with suitcases. i was attempting to move myself through sorting machinery as a train employee watched, but since i was a being with limbs, i couldn't contort myself into a compact cube and gave up.

I really loved when I used to live by the train tracks. The deep rumble of the train only two houses away, was somehow so reassuring. The whistle, not so much. There was always that one dick who just laid down on the horn the entire way through the block, instead of just at the crossing. I would lay awake those nights staring at the ceiling with anxious tremors and cursing their bloodline to a thousand tiny agonies.
