black and tan is a mix of a heavy beer, usually a stout, with a lighter beer, usually some sort of lager (i prefer the classic guinness and harp combo, but have also found happiness in a guinness and raspberry) the trick, of course, is to get the heavier beer to float on top of the lighter beer. tricky, but drinking the less than perfects is not so terrible after all is said....

i was once taught that black & tan is bells & guiness, while half & half is harp & guiness... can be done with anything, though... and i will declare it yummy... (especially the raspberry, that sounds infernally delish...) is a stinking lush
