ovenbird What food can I make that won’t get stuck in a palate expander at school? Oatmeal? No, too gloopy. Chicken and rice soup? Yes, that might work. But he’ll need a Thermos to put it in so it stays hot. I’ll order one online. Oh, and he’ll need some travel cutlery. And she’ll be jealous so I should get her a Thermos too. But she doesn’t like soup so I’ll have to put something else in it. Macaroni maybe? Which means I’ll have to make both of those things and have them ready in the morning to heat up for school. Maybe he would eat a pasta salad with orzo? Probably not. Egg salad? Unlikely. Tuna? Nope. Oh, wait. I forgot to remind him that the Terry Fox run is happening during second period today. Oh and she needs a Halloween costume except the one she wants is sold out everywhere and now we need to spend a stupid amount of money on a cheap costume that was probably made in a sweat shop and we need to go after school today. And I need to buy Halloween candy but it has to be candy compatible with his current orthodontic situation which means he won’t get to eat any of his favourite candy and he’ll be upset about that. And I forgot to get back to the counsellor. I need to get that appointment set up so we’ll have something to tide us over until we get an appointment with the psychiatrist and the dog needs his annual vaccinations and there are bananas past their prime that need to be turned into muffins and I don’t have anything for dinner tonight so I’ll have to go shopping and I need to follow up on that allergist assessment…they said they would call me back and didn’t. The whole house could really use a vacuum and we’re all out of socks. And I still haven’t called the ophthalmologist about my dry eye situation…which really seems to be getting worse. And we never really did get you a cake for your birthday did we? I think it got lost in the fray. And your mom called about Thanksgiving. I’m supposed to bring pie and vegetables but we can only go if it’s on Sunday because there are hockey games both Saturday and Monday. And can you check to make sure that our insurance claim went through because if it didn’t I need to submit it again. And do you think it’s wrong to tell a child that vitamin D calms anxiety? Even if it’s working? And I need to call about the toilet again. They haven’t sent anyone to fix it even though I sent that email three days ago and the kids keep forgetting and using it anyway so I keep having to stick my hand into the tank to flush it manually. And we’re out of the noodles you like for lunch and I need to let them know that he won’t be going to karate anymore and the school needs drivers for an upcoming field trip so I should probably volunteer. And Christmas is coming and the days keep coming and the yesterdays are piling up and what if, in the midst of it all, I forget to live? What if I forget to stop and SEE? Oh wait, that reminds me, I need to book an appointment to get a new prescription for my glasses. My left lens is off I think. And 251003
