flux fuck damn shit.
another would be robber prowling the halls of my co-op in the early a.m... except a girl coming back from the shower sees him trying to open her door. screams and chases him down the hall, past my room, outside. i've a terrible cold, and am all drugged up, so by the time i groggily stand up and look out the window, he's already jumped off the balcony, a 20 foot drop, and is making his way across the new parking lot.. lots of screaming from the now plural girls which i don't quite understand.. it takes me a minute to realize that someone is running away from our house, possibly with something stolen from inside.
the next half hour is people trying to get the damn fire escape door to close and lock properly. it's been busted for maybe 3 years now and the people responsible for fixing it don't seem to be in any hurry.. despite 7 computers being stolen from the house last semester alone, and numerous other sketch shit. and this damn door is right on the other side of wall from my head when i sleep, so people opening it and slamming it closed over and over doesn't exactly calm my nerves. thin walls.
bastard is possibly lucky i'm all groggy from cold meds. if i'd been more aware i'd have given chase with intent to cause harm to his person.
god damn, i've never been territorial, but this place is the first place i've ever felt home, and i get angry when people violate it.
fuck. just needed to rant.

oldephebe is there a landlord or tenant or coop court or municipal mechanism that you could exploit to address this obvious breach of contract and the burden of blame falls directly on those whose lapse and dereliction of duty resulted in the series of thefts and emotional trauma, who knows what trajedy and or danger the coop owner is potentially exposing you guys to by not fullfilling his/her it's terms of the real estate/lease/tenancy agreement?
...
maybe there's a paralegal or legal clinic that would take a look at the rent/real estate agreement and the subsequent robberies and loss of property and emotional well being and advise you as to what your legal recourses are...they'd probably only charge you filing fees..or something...

flux uh, interesting verbiage..
i live in a co_op that's part of a larger organization. there's no particular landlord, it's a nonprofit organization. there's also a central maintenance crew that are supposed to take care of things like this, but the doors been broken for most of the past three years. in truth, we've four of these doors at different points along the permitter of our house, all of which have malfunctioned at some point, but this one's historically been the worst. the central crew has supposedly been out to see it more than once, we've tried fixing it ourselves, and we've tried educating people as to how to properly lock the door, but nothing seems to work for long.
i personally have no desire to sue the co_op organization. for the most part, they do a better job than i would expect. they also get sued alot, and are fairly good at defending themselves.. also, it seems likely that most of the thefts occurred after either someone let the thief in without asking why they were here, or the thief had a house key. we've just changed the locks, but there are a couple of doors that are still keyed on the old system, because we don't know how to take them apart. however, you'd have to do some amount of climbing to use either of these doors to get into the house..
anyway, it's mostly speculation. the real solution is to replace broken doors with new ones that don't suck.

oE perhaps everyone could pool their money and purchase new doors... 040305

flux heh. it's a co_op, so you'd think they would.. but doors are expensive (more than you would think), and we've allocated our money for other projects at the moment. i keep pushing this, though.. maybe next fall. 040305
