redTree you have been chosen as the world's new super hero, but you can possess only one power that you must select from the following two choices...

1. the ability to fly
2. the ability to be invisible

which one do you choose? why?
what will you call yourself?

redTree what are the top five events of your life this year? 081209
...
cocoon Wow, I completely missed the earlier two!

Will be back to answer these properly later today..

cocoon I'll start with the second one cause thats easy. Id love to be able to fly. Its a no-brainer especially given what I study (Aerospace Engineering, with more interest in the aeronautical side). The other day we did a flight where we got to experience being weightless (Zero-G) and it was so awesome.

As for names - I have no idea.

cocoon Top 5 events of my life this year:

1. Hiking in the south of France for 10 days with friends. It made me realise I can do so much more than I think I can. It made me realise I dont push myself enough.

2. Visiting my sister in Boston. I dont really know if its an 'event' as such. But it was a definite highlight. It made me realise just how much I miss having my family around, and how much I love my sisters.

3. 4-day hike in Belgium. Similar to #1 only less days - they were however more action packed.

4. Aaaand this is where I start to struggle. Do concerts count? I had a lot of fun at concerts this year. I am now no longer afraid of moshpits (as long as they're gentle ones though :)

5. Hm. This wasnt quite an event, but more coming to the realisation that when the time comes, I'll be totally fine. Sorry for the cryptic-ness but well...

Still pondering your first set. I just looked at the date you posted them and realised that was when I was in France!

redTree ...concerning #5...i'm very fascinated by the process
of your realisation...could you explain how you came to be "totally fine?"
081214
...
cocoon well, mainly it was realising that sometimes its ok to ask for help. and also that i have a lot of friends who will always be willing to help me should i ever need it.

all of which made me less prone to stressing about things which i probably didnt even need to be worrying about in the first place..

redTree what were some of your memorable concerts? where did you see them? 081217
...
cocoon rage against the machine in antwerp was pretty epic. but i have to say, some of that was just from the fact that it was RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!

apart from that, foals in april were super awesome. that was the gig that got me embracing moshing.

and friendly fires (twice) and foals again last month was pretty awesome.

and with that, i think ive listed almost all the gigs ive been to this year. i like concerts, they make me happy :)

redTree sounds like your family is scattered about. where are your sisters besides boston? what were your impressions of the states? 081219
...
cocoon the family IS scattered, and i really hate that right now. a sister in boston, one in canada and one at home with my dad.

impressions of the states? i dont know. boston is nice. new york was...busy, very busy. very tall. but i dont know, you get bombarded with ideas of what the states SHOULD be like from tv/movies/etc, but for me it was mainly about hanging out with my sister. i had a good time. the weather was great!

redTree i never had a sister and always wished i did. i had one brother who i love with my life. my wife and i raised three girls.

what are some of your fondest memories with your sisters growing up?
090106
...
cocoon Hah. Oh man. I dont even know. Its very hard to pinpoint memories. When I think about growing up at home when everyone was still together its just sort of ends up making me feel warm and fuzzy inside :)

I was very lucky growing up. Its strange how all of a sudden that just hit home in the last year. My childhood was awesome.

I guess some of my most enduring memories involve me playing with the sister who comes before me - this involved falling out of loquat trees and recreating scenes from books we had read. Some epic fights between certain sisters. Baking. General hanging out.

r e d t r e e what were some of the scenes you recreated and from what books? 090107
...
cocoon Huh. I thought I had replied to this.

Um, one scene I always remember recreating was from this book. I cant remember the name now. I want to say it was an Enid Blyton type book, but Im not sure. Anyway, story about a young girl, I think she had to go to boarding school or something? Anyway, the main character Katy falls (from a swing?) and breaks her hand. So we used to recreate that on the swings outside.

There may also have been a few (fake)picnics as well as camping adventures. Im not sure if those were from books or not.

Childhood was fun.
