BOY: On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses? GIRL: Will he offer me his mouth? BOY: Yes. GIRL: Will he offer me his teeth? BOY: Yes. GIRL: Will he offer me his jaws? BOY: Yes. GIRL: Will he offer me his hunger? BOY: Yes. GIRL: Again, will he offer me his hunger? BOY: Yes! GIRL: And does he love me? BOY: Yes. GIRL: Yes. BOY: On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses? GIRL: Yes. BOY: I bet you say that to all the boys! It was a hot summer night and the beach was burning. There was fog crawling over the sand. When I listen to your heart I hear the whole world turning. I see the shooting stars falling through your trembling hands. You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining. I was dying just to ask for a taste. We were lying together in a silver lining by the the light of the moon. You know there's not another moment Not another moment Not another moment to waste. You hold me so close that my knees grow weak. But my soul is flying high above the ground. I'm trying to speak but no matter what I do I just can't seem to make any sound. And then you took the words right out of my mouth. Oh it must have been while you were kissing me. You took the words right out of my mouth. And I swear it's true, I was just about to say I love you. And then you took the words right out of my mouth. Oh it must have been while you were kissing me. You took the words right out of my mouth. And I swear it's true, I was just about to say I love you. Now my body is shaking like a wave on the water And I guess that I'm beginning to grin. Oh we're finally alone and we can do what we want to. The night is young And Ain't no-one gonna know where you No-one gonna know where you No-one's gonna know where you've been. You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining. I was dying just to ask for a taste. We were lying together in a silver lining by the the light of the moon. You know there's not another moment Not another moment Not another moment to waste. And I swear it's true, I was just about to say I love you. http://www.meatloaf-oifc.com/

i ate a dead man for dinner the other night. i had him with ketchup and mashed potatoes. he tasted like my childhood. before i was eating him for the first time in five or ten years, i was listening to him sing. something about the shameless swagger of his music lit up my adolescent nerve center, the same way "it's all coming back to me now" did the first time i heard celine dion sing it on the radio. all those songs jim steinman wrote might sound ridiculous if i heard them right now, but back then the pumped-up drama grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go. a man who wasn't really a hunk of ground meat told me my future was defective. he told me i could shove it up my ass. you don't want to hear that shit when you're eleven. but i didn't hold it against him. pete spent the weekend with me once. we listened to "rock and roll dreams come through". i picked out three two-note chords on a rented keyboard. it was the first time i played along with someone else's song and felt like i knew what i was doing. i didn't. it was just luck and a bit of clumsy ingenuity. but i ran with it. pete got that intense, reverent look he gets sometimes, and i played those three chords like it was the last thing i was ever going to do. i would dig out my old cassettes for a bit of nostalgic fun, but jim steinman screwed lorraine crosby out of getting paid for her contribution to "i would do anything for love (but i won't do that)" by calling her spotlit moment a "guide vocal". she didn't even get the chance to pretend to sing her own part in the music video. how do you forgive a thing like that? maybe it's only rock and roll, but life ain't a lemon. it's a grapefruit. and i'm having mine with toast and peanut butter.
