bat
raze for her final art school project, she made a sculpture. it didn't look like anything. it wasn't supposed to look like anything. it was more about the feelings that went into making the thing and what it represented for her. she'd been through a lot.

she showed me a video she made as part of her presentation. there was the sculpture. there was her face. there was her voice talking about the sculpture. on top of all of that was this buzzing sound like a ground loop.

she asked me what i thought.

"i like that there's this layer of noise over everything," i said. "it forces me to really work to hear what you're saying. and it makes me a little uncomfortable."

she looked at me. her eyes got really intense. "i'm so glad you said that," she said.

everyone else thought it was a mistake. noise that wasn't supposed to be there.

she made me a shirt. she drew the design and then she screen printed it. there was someone sitting at a table, trying to eat a bowl of soup while a bat hovered around his head and said, "what do you think? what do you think? what do you think?"

i asked her if the person the bat was talking to was supposed to be me. she said it wasn't. it looked just like me.

what do you think?
