I've
been
diagnosed
with
ADD
,
and
I'm
starting
to
believe
that
this
"
chemical
imbalance
"
may
be
my
need
for
an
immediate
reward
.
Even
if
I
try
to
study
I
can't
manage
to
stay
on
task
unless
I
find
the
subject
interesting
.
When
I
manage
to
find
something
that
captures
my
interest
,
however
,
I
feel
as
though
I'm
"hyper_focused."
In
this
case
, quenching
my
own
interest
is
the
immediate
reward
.
Perhaps
those
with
ADD
just
don't
have
the
patience
to
bother
with
tasks
that
don't
have
some
instantaneous recompense.
This
isn't
to
say
that
it
isn't
a
chemical
imbalance
.
Most
of
the
medications
out
there
work
by
increasing
dopamine
levels
(
a
neurotransmitter
that
,
among
other
things
,
plays
a
powerful
role
in
motivation
.)
