Shinya onna Turns out that ribbon snake (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia) I saw down by Tomales bay & Dillons beach is the famed San Francisco Garter snake. One of The rarest Snakes in the U.S, and heavily protected as an endangered species. 000823

sarpedon One day at a summer camp I went to, we visited a bit of a marshy area. We saw the first ribbon snake, and decided, what the hell, to catch it. And so we took the nets that we had, and attempted to capture it, and so we did. Trouble was, how do you bring them back. We had buckets, and we somehow brought about the transfer from the net, into the bucket. We kept one of the other nets on top of it so that they would not escape.

We caught about five or six that day.
