Brad I like polychords. I like quartal harmony. I like odd meters and polyrhythms. It's great. sharp fourths and flatted fifths, flatted thirteenths and fully altered dominants... all swell. But you know what, in the end, all of that stuff in the wrong hands can make a bunch of homogenous "angry young man" music. Lately I have just been pulling out the old Count Basie Orchestra records. There is something to be said for music that just "feels" good. It doesn't have to sound dark or sinister. Happy feels good too. Angry young man music is nice and interesting, but it doesn't swing like Basie does. 000623
