sun_on_a_rope
raze a beautiful young girl, maybe eight or nine years old with dark brown hair tied back, tugs on a length of rope that's connected to the sun. she can never pull the sun down from the sky no matter how hard she tries. she and her father free a group of animals from captivity in some sort of sinister zoo, and they're hiding out in a forest haven when the evil japanese man who imprisoned the creatures (looking a bit like woo-jin lee from "oldboy") shows up and flashes his evil smile. he takes the animals back and turns the girl and her father into monkeys, leaving them both hanging by their hands from a thin wooden bar set against a cliff, high above the ground. there doesn't appear to be any plant life now...just dirt, rocks and rock formations. various shades of brown and tan. it's only a matter of time before they lose their grip and fall to their deaths.

the girl eventually falls, but instead of hitting the ground she lands in a white mesh net in a tree where she becomes trapped, reverting to her previous human form. her father is nowhere to be found, nor are any other people or animals. night is falling now. she starts sobbing and screaming, "mom...dad...i'm scared!" over and over again, alone in the growing darkness. it's difficult to watch, because the fear in her voice is so palpable.

then, somehow, she's back on the ground in her original form, pulling on the rope that's attached to the sun with a new determination in her eyes. it's the middle of the day once again. this time she feels something give, and to her surprise the sun moves down a considerable distance. she keeps pulling and walks forward, following the rope to see where it ends. it leads her into a small open outdoor theatre where it is revealed that the other end of the rope is actually attached to a large black tarp on the stage ahead. she stands near the back of the audience, unseen, while five japanese businessmen sit at a nice glossy wooden table next to the tarp onstage, immaculately dressed.

the girl gives the rope one final pull and the tarp flies off to reveal an elephant underneath. the people present still don't notice that she's here. one of the businessmen addresses the audience and says, "we'd like you to break into five groups."

i've had a lot of dreams that were much stranger and more detailed, but this is one i still can't get away from. small as it is, it seems loaded with symbolism i could never hope to unravel. the mind is a strange thing.
