what_does_love_mean
raze as much as i complain about facebook, every so often i see something that makes me glad i'm still on it. like this, which someone linked to this morning. i haven't been able to figure out what the original source is. and maybe you've seen it before. if you have, i think it's worth revisiting.

the premise here is that a group of kids between the ages of four and eight were asked "what does love mean?" and these were their answers. i chopped out the article's preamble and postscript; i don't like the way the writer treats the whole thing like a competition and almost condescends to the idea of children saying meaningful things. after reading these answers, i think instead of us trying to explain to little people what love is, maybe we should just let them tell us.

Risen To me, love doesn't mean a thing unless it is selfless.

So many people say they want the one they love to be happy... But there is this hidden proviso that they want that person to be happy *with them*.

Love means wanting what will truly make the person you love happy, whatever that is.

Love is doing whatever you can to make sure they are happy, even if it means you are not.

Love means surrendering yourself.

Love means reading Kipling's "If" and Hope's "The Prisoner of Zenda" and finding the happy endings.
