"Patrick Watson (born 1979) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, and the name of the band which he fronts, whose blend of cabaret pop and classical music influences with indie rock has been compared to Rufus Wainwright, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and Pink Floyd for their experimental musicianship."

i'd want to see what you're talking about so i checked it out, tho i'm too far away to last-minute go to a show that starts at 10pm. sad but true, i have to convince my mom i'm not crazy, and this would make her think i'm not balanced when i couldn't be moreso, what with my room clean and all. (bummer living at home; perhaps a bigger bummer to pay rent somewhere else. i just have to convince myself that somebody needs to save me or my life was all exciting already and to follow caution caution caution) when i first heard this person's name, i thought he was the young astrologer by the same name.

a couple of "live" examples, then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFUqrOsl2rU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1jAm7-2-ow they don't do the live performance justice, but they're better than nothing

he seems to play with the difference and separation, if any, of observer and observed.

i don't know that's the only way i could describe it. i guess, another way: he decreases the distance between the audience and himself. i was pretty certain that "observer and observed" was correct wording though because it sounds less conventional, which also seems to apply. i'm in a no music except the music i already have phase, but if i weren't i'd want to explore it more.

also appropriate for the venus transit/retrograde since venus symbol as a physical object is a mirror. only not to see but to bring one into the music.

thanks! i wasn't implying it wasn't correct; i just need my music reviews dumbed down (ha). but yeah, he definitely lessens the distance between himself and the audience, possibly because he doesn't have much of an ego, and also he's whimsical and/or crazy. i'm glad you found it potentially enjoyable, though :)

i like your use of observer and observed, amy_in_red. i think he is a consummate professional which comes with the ability to separate one's self from an audience, yet connect on a different plane. he is whimsical and crazy as no reason so deftly defined and it is this that makes him so engaging. we see our secret self in him as free as a bird.

i wish i could find someone to go with i'd like not to have a $35 ticket go to waste it would be nice not to always have to scramble for +1s (not to mention 2s, 3s, etc.) for things

i found someone to take the ticket (who i didn't know previously), and she was awesome. we had a lot of the same taste in music, and similar humour, and she suggested we hang out in the future for music-y things and etc. and said something about patrick watson singing with a female singer from montreal who has since passed away, and that she couldn't remember the name but would look it up and send it to me. i haven't heard anything from her since, and have tried contacting her, with no luck. it's weird and i hope she's okay. it's also sad because she felt like my musical soul_sister.
