The Soundtrack for 'Pi' is indeed quite amazing. I watched it around 1am or so and it messed up with my head. Oh yes, it did.

The Donnie Darko one is pretty good. But I heard somewhere that the version in stores misses a couple of tracks which were in the movie. Im not sure. But its still pretty awesome.

romeo+juliet [1&2], amelie [and, on the yann tiersen side o' things, goodbye lenin!], lost in translation, high fidelity, cruel intentions, virgin suicides [air, not the compilation]... ok that's *way* more than one. nice work, me.

forceful nods of agreement for peter gabriel's "passion" (maybe my favourite pg album) and ry cooder's brilliant work on the "paris, texas" soundtrack. i'd also nominate mark isham's score for "romeo is bleeding" (great depraved pulpy neo-noir) and the "high art" soundtrack, which features the band shudder to think reinventing themselves as a sort of dreamy pseudo-trip hop group. "she might be waking up" is still one of the most effective and gut-wrenching end_credits songs i've ever heard.

also, "the conversation". wonderfully evocative use of the piano, similar to the way ry cooder's slide guitar weaves in and out of "paris, texas".

romeo + juilet the baz lurhman version the song that mercutio sings in drag at the beginning of the movie came on in target yesterday, the original disco version and i sang along audibly from behind my mask to the point that a few meek quiet customers stared. i had both the cds of the soundtrack from this movie and i loved both of them so much that over 20 years later i could still remember most of the words

that’s one of my faves too unhinged! i love that you sang “young hearts” at the store; if I had been there to witness it i would have added to what_made_you_smile_today.

so the film hasn't aged very well (and perhaps it was never that good to begin with) but i still love the saint soundtrack. peak 90's electronica right there.

i saw that in the theater with my dad when it came out! gotta love peak-era val kilmer and elisabeth shue rubbing sticks and stones together to make the sparks ignite on the big screen.

:) and now that i have been inspired to watch it again for the first time in years i realized i've played the mozart symphony thats in the background when juilet and her mom get ready for the party not to mention the radiohead song in this movie was the theme song of my teenage existence (really i just wanted to be myself but it took me a couple decades to figure that out)

so i had no idea how romeo + juliet ended when i saw this movie in theaters (even though they tell you at the beginning!) and my twelve-year-old heart was pretty devastated for about a week afterward.

"basquiat" is another one i can't believe i forgot about. my introduction to the pogues right there. not one, but two great tom_waits songs. plus van morrison, charlie parker, miles_davis, the psychedelic furs, john_cale, pj_harvey, david_bowie (who also plays andy warhol in the movie), and more.

okay, so these are tv shows and not films, but the soundtracks for "northern exposure" and "cowboy_bebop" are so evocative and perfectly formed, it's impossible to separate the music from the stories being spun around it.
